Suturing

Suturing in Ayurveda is referred to as “Sutra Karma” or “Suturing (Sutrakarma/Suturing Vidhi)”, where “Sutra” means thread and “Karma” means procedure or action.
Acharya Sushruta—often called the “Father of Surgery”—outlined various techniques of stitching skin, muscle, and other tissues using natural materials like linen, silk, or plant fibers. These methods were used for treating injuries, surgical incisions, lacerated wound, skin/muscle tear and reconstructive procedures such as repairing earlobes (Karna Sandhana). Ayurvedic suturing focused on precise alignment of tissue, use of herbal antiseptics, and dosha balance to promote rapid healing and minimize scarring.
